Tekuma Wins the 15K MIT Creative Arts Competition!

Wait! What? Really? Did we just win? It took a while for the announcement to sink in. Within a few seconds, we were on stage holding a big fake check worth $15,000.

We had just won the Creative Arts Prize for most promising arts focused venture at MIT. For the first time, Tekuma was in the spotlight. A packed auditorium of over one thousand people watched as we accepted our prize. The feeling was simply amazing.
But, wait, this is MIT! Robotics? Artificial intelligence? Data or virtual reality software? Nope. Tekuma transforms space with art in the best way possible.

It has been exactly two years since Kun said “Hey man, this sucks! We need space to show our work.” At MIT, talented architecture students present their projects year after year, only to have them thrown away or forgotten. Kun, like many of us, wanted to change that dynamic. He wanted to create a platform where art was appreciated, intellectually considered, and thoughtfully curated.

Fast forward two years later and there we were on stage! Finally, we had been recognized across MIT for all of the work we had done to make Tekuma happen.

Our message is simple, “Art needs Space / Space needs Art”. Space should be adorned with the right art, and art should be placed in spaces that fit. We are working hard day and night to make sure we make every space beautiful, authentic and unique.

It was the perfect way to say goodbye to MIT, a place like no other. It had been our Disneyland, our playground.

Now it’s time for us to fly and accelerate. Thanks to those who were there in the audience, and a big shout out to Arts at MIT, who have supported us since the beginning. Last night was incredible and will forever be remembered.
