Jessica is a mixed media artist and entrepreneur based in Vienna. When she is not making her own art, she counsels and enables other artists to create their most authentic work.
Born in Ontario, Canada, Jessica Serran holds an MA in Transformative Art from John F Kennedy University in Berkeley, CA and a BFA in Illustration from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI. Recently named a Leader of the New Cool in Prague, she has exhibited and published her work in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and across North America; been featured in Art 21, The Prague Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, Detroit MetroTimes, Holistic Fashionista Magazine and was a 2014 Creative Mornings guest speaker on the topic of Color. Jessica’s evolving, multi-layered practice has continued to draw inspiration from her interest in social engagement.
“I’ve always been interested in gathering information from other groups of people and incorporating that into the final form (…) In that way, the works are a sort of psycho cartography.”
Her commitment to uncovering inner truth not only informs her visual work, but also her entrepreneurial practice. The Becoming Artist Movement, founded by Jessica in 2015, works to help self-taught and professional artists alike make what she calls their most authentic work.
Whether through field guide projects or simple conversations, Jessica’s love for dialogue continues to push her to source inspiration from the world around her. “I really love giving people a chance to speak what feels like their truth.”
