Kwaku Opoku

Musician, visionary and designer

To Kwaku, art is a stronger vehicle than speech when it comes to sharing thoughts and ideas.

Kwaku ‘REEZ’ Opoku, is Ghanaian student enrolled at Parsons The New School For Design in New York City. He is majoring in Integrated Design through which he is exploring different forms of art.

‘’ There is no better way than illustrating what you want to talk about, because to me just talking about it doesn't ‘paint’ the same picture as a work of art.’’

‘’ There is no better way than illustrating what you want to talk about, because to me just talking about it doesn't ‘paint’ the same picture as a work of art.’’

Kwaku thinks of his work as a puzzle: he usually works in series and iterations. To achieve coherence between his artworks, he often repeats the use of the vibrant and dark colours. He carefully selects the palette as a first step.

His work often stems from his personal experience, but also global issues. He is currently conducting a campaign at Parsons questioning the issues of race and ethnicity. He sees art as a platform to hold those discussions.
