On Wilderness Rescue

‘Wilderness Rescue’ was commissioned for the recent Vogue China December issue. Unlike her fashion-inspired drawings, Decue uses a more restrained palette for her lifestyle illustrations, often specific to the project.

Decue edits her drawings on her computer with digital tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Starting off-screen, she plays with her hand-made textures, screen prints and collages. This technique gives her illustrations unique and rich patterns similar to brush and paper textures.

About Decue Wu

Decue's work has been featured in Vogue, The New York Times and Esquire. Originally from Shenzhen, China, she graduated from Maryland Institute College of Arts with a Master in Illustration Practice. In 2014, she moved to Boston and began working for MIT as a Graphic Artist and Production Designer. Pursuing greater design opportunities, Decue recently transplanted to LA where she is focusing on her freelance work, and working at a startup as head graphic designer.

Decue has always been greatly influenced by fashion. Some of inspirations include Yves St Laurent, Helmut Lang, Hussein Chalayan, Alexander McQueen and Rei Kawakubo. More than fashion, Decue’s clients include Airbnb, Sony Music, MIT and Singapore Airlines.

Decue’s workspace is always tidy! She does most of her work on her computer using Illustrator, Photoshop and her tablet. She is often interrupted by her cat Sashimi.
